The UNESCO World Heritage Site is located within the well-known Cultural Triangle which is home to all three of the sights. An island cave temple complex that has been preserved is called Dambulla Temple. A patricide monarch who left a legacy rose to power and then fell from Sigiriya Rock Fortress. The Minneriya Tank gathers a remarkably large number of elephants every year between August and September.

Sight: Sigiriya Rock Climb

Today’s trip’s high point is hiking Sigiriya Rock a UNESCO World Heritage Site that draws tons of tourists eager to see this magnificent palace. The famous enormous lion paws serve as a gatekeeper for the stairs leading to the summit which was once home to the monarch’s palace. You can see the renowned Sigiriya Frescoes or rock paintings halfway up the rock. These are thought to be some of the oldest paintings in the entire world.

Walk through a Matale spice garden with a knowledgeable guide afterwards. Learn about the cultivation of many other tropical herbs that you may be familiar with as well as the spices that you have used to flavour your food at home.
